This is hell.

As I post this, 1330H Coronado time, Cameron is sitting in a classroom with 90 other BUD/S trainees waiting on a pizza delivery. His group started in June with 280. They will call family and friends, nap, eat, and contemplate what the next 5.5 days will bring them. He anticipates they will break out around 9PM, it might be sooner or later, they don't really know. But the break out starts with the mass confusion shown at the beginning of the video. He says that the purpose is full disorientation. Once the mayhem starts they will go non-stop, 64 "evolutions" of torture, with only 3 hours of sleep before they finish Friday at noon. The sleep is part of the torture, as it provides no benefit, just another opportunity to "DOR", or drop on request. Barring an injury or an illness (pneumonia is common), Cameron will complete the process, he did it once before, 3 years ago. He has a slight cough (tracheitis I presume) and a persistent granulomatous lesion on his left heel. But he says he feels good, and just wants to get it on.
We fly out to Coronado Thursday and hope to see them in some phase of the training, probably watching them carrying their little boats on head on the Strand Hwy.

At age 29 and at 5 ft, 7, he is the oldest and shortest in class.

God speed Cameron. Kick ass.

Blog Surfing and a Clarification

Sometimes I'll cruise blogdom just to see what interests me. It's very much like tooling through YouTube. Usually I'll go to YouTube looking for something specific, such as a video of Pink falling off stage or replays of the "hand of God". Sometimes however I get distracted and start going through a maze of videos; for example yesterday while looking for the guy who hit his shot backwards at the British Open, I pulled up Procol Harum playing a Whiter Shade of Pale. I had no idea they were a white band. Same for blogs. I asked myself what attracts me first to read a blog, and it's always the appearance of the layout. An attractive scheme and good organized layout draws my attention. After that I look at the artwork/pictures. Oftentimes I won't even read anyone's blog unless I'm drawn by the appearance, despite what the headline might suggest could be interesting. In the case of Lady Gaga I just had to look, since it had more than 10 million views. This is mesmerizing. After watching this, I see why guys don't stand a chance. You can be the judge.

Now for the clarification. I usually don't try to explain my blog. Usually there is no need or a clarification is needless. Someone contacted me last nite however and asked (gently) who is Kelly. First, let me say she says she loves me too. And that's not a diss on Debbie. I love her dearly, and I'm pretty sure Debbie loves me, although sometimes I wonder when she asks me if I'm taking my vitamins and drinking plenty of water. I think she might be trying to force me into hyponatremia and Vit D intoxication. Oh, and Kelly and Debbie love one another also.

Let me explain: Kelly is Cameron's fiance. She's awesome. Just engaged past 2 months. Wedding date yet to be made, depends on when he finishes SEAL training. That's Kelly in the middle surrounded by Erica, Debbie, Amy & Chris. Taken at Vincenzo's last week.

So there you have it. I was able to get Procol Harum, Pink, Maradonna, some back-hitting golfer dude, and Lady Gaga into one blog.

Enjoy the show.

Dear Diary:

Where have I been? Well, for one I "deactivated" my blog for a period. What that really means is that after a short time of not logging in to it, I forgot how to access it. I think I've figured it out. I'll see after I hit the "publish post" tab. (not holding my breath).

This was a good weekend, so I'll get that out of the way in short words to jump-start the posts:
1. I found the Bells Oberon. (on Lagrange Rd..go figure)
2. The Tour de France is underway, so my addiction is rekindled.
3. Speaking of Kindle, I love my iPad.
4. Looks like my pick of the Dutch might hold true. The Deutsche Nationalmannschaft looks forboding however.
5. Macroeconomics is now a near-distant memory.
6. My running is baby steps, but hope springs eternal.
7. The place on the right was found on a saturday night in Ann Arbor. I liked it.
